ICOM IC-A220 VHF Air Band Transceiver
The Icom IC-A220 is an innovative VHF air band transceiver designed for aviation use. Here are some key features of the IC-A220:
- High Visibility OLED Screen: The IC-A220 boasts an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display that provides higher contrast, a wider viewing angle of almost 180 degrees, and faster response time compared to conventional LCDs. The display has a wide active area, allowing operating frequencies to be maximized while showing operating status at both the top and bottom of the screen.
- Large Switch Buttons: The front panel features large switch buttons, including a convenient FLIP-FLOP (Frequency exchange) switch. All buttons and knobs are illuminated with pure-white backlighting, matching the OLED display color.
- Auto Squelch Function: The squelch sensitivity adjusts automatically based on noise levels to eliminate background noise and unwanted signals.
- Quick Squelch Adjustment: The auto and manual squelch, including squelch level, can be quickly adjusted using the Volume knob. The squelch test function temporarily opens the squelch for signal monitoring.
- GPS Memory Function: When connected to an external GPS receiver equipped with an airport frequency database, the IC-A220 can transfer nearby airport frequency data for easy access.
- Optional Power Supply PS-80: For ground-based operations, the optional PS-80 power supply allows convenient base station use. It includes a built-in speaker and HM-176 hand microphone.
- Intercom Function: The IC-A220 has a built-in voice-activated intercom, allowing communication between the pilot and copilot via headsets. Adjustable audio levels and squelch control enhance usability.
- Remote Control Capability: FLIP-FLOP, intercom, and recall switches can be remotely controlled via the rear panel connector.
- 8.33 kHz Channel Spacing: The IC-A220 supports switching between 8.33 kHz and 25 kHz frequency steps in the menu mode (note that 8.33 kHz channel spacing may be prohibited in some countries).
- Memory Channels: The IC-A220 offers 20 memory channels and 20 history memory channels, allowing instant recall of frequently used frequencies. Group memory channels are organized into 10 memory channels by five groups (total 50 channels).
The Icom IC-A220 is a reliable choice for aviation communication, combining advanced features with ease of use. Whether you’re a pilot or an aviation enthusiast, this transceiver ensures clear and efficient communication in the skies! 🛩️✈️
