About Power Supply
Power supplies, or power supply units (PSUs), are devices or systems responsible for providing electrical power to electronic devices or systems. Their primary function is to convert one form of electrical energy into another suitable form, typically from a source of electrical power (like a wall outlet or battery) to a form usable by electronic devices.
Types of Power Supplies:
AC
Converts alternating current (AC) from a source such as a mains power socket into a stable AC voltage suitable for operating equipment and devices that require AC input.
DC
Converts AC from a mains or other source into a steady and regular direct voltage (DC). It is commonly used to power electronic devices that require a specific DC voltage.
Linear
Uses transformers, rectifiers, and regulators to convert AC to DC. It provides a stable output but is less efficient and bulkier compared to a switching power supply’s.
Switching (SMPS – Switched-Mode Power Supply):
Uses switching devices (such as transistors) with high frequency to convert AC to DC. More efficient, smaller, and lighter, suitable for most modern electronic devices.
